Thermal imaging

Evidence-based inspections that show heat before it becomes a failure.

Electrical faults often announce themselves as heat long before they announce themselves as smoke, downtime, or a midnight call-out. Thermal imaging lets us inspect energised systems and find abnormal temperature signatures at connections, breakers, busbars, and loads.

UET delivers thermal surveys with practical reporting: what we saw, why it matters, and what to do next—so managers can prioritise spend with evidence rather than guesswork.

Where thermal imaging adds value

Main switchboards, distribution boards, and heavily loaded circuits are common focus areas. We also use thermal imaging as part of broader maintenance programs where a building has had recurring trips, unexplained heat, or ageing infrastructure that needs a clearer risk picture.

A baseline survey creates a reference point. Follow-up surveys show whether conditions are stable, improving after remediation, or drifting toward failure.

Reporting you can action

Pretty pictures are not enough. Our reports highlight notable findings, relative severity, and recommended next steps—whether that is a re-torque, a component replacement, load investigation, or a monitored watch-and-recheck.

That makes thermal imaging useful for committees, facilities teams, and insurers who need a defensible record of proactive electrical care.

Part of a wider maintenance story

Thermal imaging is part of our compliance testing program, and it is also a diagnostic and capital-planning tool. It pairs with RCD testing, smoke alarm testing, and emergency lighting, as well as strata maintenance and metering work. Many clients use it annually or at set intervals across a portfolio so risk stays visible without waiting for symptoms.

Compliance testing

This test is part of the compliance program. Book it on its own, or with the other tests on one visit.

How it works

A clear path from enquiry to outcome

  1. 1

    Scope the assets

We confirm boards, plant, and access windows—including any live-work controls required on site.

  2. 2

    Capture under load

Surveys are performed with systems in representative operating conditions wherever practical.

  3. 3

    Analyse and document

Findings are reviewed, annotated, and written into a clear report for decision-makers.

  4. 4

    Remediate and re-check

Where issues are found, we can quote repairs and optionally re-image after corrective work.

Ideal for

Who this service suits

  • Strata and commercial switchrooms
  • Sites with ageing distribution equipment
  • Portfolios building a preventive maintenance program
  • Managers preparing for insurance or audit discussions

FAQ

Common questions

Do you need a shutdown? +

Often no. Thermal imaging is most useful on energised equipment under load. We still follow site safety requirements and will discuss any constraints before attendance.

How often should we survey? +

Many sites benefit from annual or periodic surveys, with earlier follow-ups after major findings or board upgrades. We can recommend a rhythm based on risk and asset age.

Is this the same as an infrared building moisture scan? +

No. Our focus here is electrical thermal imaging for power distribution and related equipment—not general building envelope surveys.
