Switchboards & distribution
Boards, distribution, and upgrade pathways planned for real buildings—not just a quote on paper.
Switchboards and distribution are where safety, capacity, and day-to-day reliability meet. Ageing infrastructure, overloaded sub-mains, unclear labelling, and upgrade pathways that involve the network operator all need a contractor who can plan the electrical work and the operational reality around it.
UET delivers switchboard and distribution projects for strata, commercial, and industrial sites—from chassis board fit-outs through to SMSB replacement and Western Power–related upgrade pathways—with clear communication for managers and occupied buildings.
Infrastructure replacement
When boards, risers, or distribution equipment are past their useful life, patch-and-pray stops being a strategy. We assess condition, capacity, and access constraints, then plan replacement that keeps the site workable through the program.
Typical drivers include recurring trips, heat findings from thermal surveys, obsolete gear that can no longer be supported, and capital works that need a defensible scope for committees or facilities teams.
SMSB replacement and upgrades
Sub-main switchboard (SMSB) work often sits in the critical path between the main board and the rest of the building. We plan replacement and upgrades with isolation strategy, temporary supply needs, and resident or tenant impact in mind.
You get a practical program: what changes, when power is affected, what stays live where possible, and what decisions need owner or manager sign-off before works start.
Western Power project applications and upgrades
Some capacity, protection, or connection upgrades require network-operator pathways as well as site-side electrical works. We support Western Power project applications and upgrade scopes so the paperwork, design intent, and installation stay aligned.
Early clarity on whether a job is site-only or network-involved saves weeks of false starts—and keeps managers informed about what sits with UET versus the network process.
Chassis boards: supply and fit-out
For chassis board work, UET can supply the chassis and install RCBOs and breakers as required for the circuits and protection scheme on site. That keeps procurement and installation with one accountable team instead of a split between "parts arrived" and "who is wiring it."
Labelling, tidy terminations, and a board that the next tradesperson can navigate are part of the standard—not optional extras.
Industrial components for project scopes
Where a project calls for industrial-grade switchboard components, we can supply and install through our industrial accounts with NHP and Schneider—so specified gear lands with the same team delivering the board work.
This is a project supply capability tied to UET installation and upgrade scopes, not a general parts counter. Everyday residential and light-commercial materials continue through our normal trade supply channels.
How it works
A clear path from enquiry to outcome
- 1
Assess the board and constraints
We review condition, loading, access, outage windows, and whether Western Power pathways are likely to be involved.
- 2
Scope the upgrade path
Replacement, SMSB work, chassis fit-out, or network-related upgrade—each gets a clear scope and decision points.
- 3
Plan isolation and communications
Occupied sites need a practical outage story for managers, caretakers, and affected tenancies.
- 4
Install, commission, and hand over
Works are completed to a tidy standard with labelling and documentation that supports the next maintenance visit.
Ideal for
Who this service suits
- Strata schemes with ageing main or sub-main boards
- Commercial sites needing distribution upgrades
- Projects that may involve Western Power applications
- Managers wanting chassis supply and breaker fit-out from one team
- Industrial or heavier commercial scopes specifying NHP or Schneider gear
FAQ
Common questions
Do you only replace whole switchboards? +
No. Scopes range from chassis fit-outs and targeted upgrades through to full infrastructure replacement and SMSB works, depending on condition and risk.
Can you help with Western Power applications? +
Yes. Where an upgrade requires a Western Power project pathway, we can support the application and align site works with that process.
Do you supply NHP or Schneider parts on their own? +
No. Industrial component supply through our NHP and Schneider accounts is tied to UET installation and project scopes—not standalone parts sales.
Will there be an outage? +
Many board upgrades need planned isolation. We design the program around site constraints and communicate clearly so managers can notify stakeholders.
