Emergency lighting testing

Exit signs and emergency lights tested, timed, and written up.

When the power fails, emergency lighting and exit signs are what people follow. If those fittings have not been tested, a building can look compliant in daylight and go dark—or stay unsigned—when it matters.

UET runs emergency lighting testing as a practical program: what was tested, what stayed lit, what failed, and what should be repaired before the next cycle.

Exit signs included

The visit covers emergency luminaires and exit signs. That includes fittings in car parks, stairs, corridors, plant areas, and other common paths people actually use.

Occupied sites need testing that respects access and operating hours. We plan the discharge work so disruption is understood before we start.

Results, not just a tick

A pass is recorded. A failure is recorded with enough detail to quote a repair: the fitting, the location, and whether it is a lamp, a battery, or the whole unit.

Those notes are written for scheme documents and facilities files, so the next committee pack or insurer question has evidence rather than recollection.

Part of compliance testing

Emergency lighting sits with RCD testing, smoke alarm testing, and thermal imaging in our compliance testing program. Thermal imaging remains a diagnostic survey as well as a compliance record, so the program page explains how the pieces fit when you want them on one calendar.

Compliance testing

This test is part of the compliance program. Book it on its own, or with the other tests on one visit.

How it works

A clear path from enquiry to outcome

  1. 1

    Scope the paths

We confirm buildings, fitting types, and any areas that need after-hours or coordinated access.

  2. 2

    Test the fittings

Functional checks and discharge tests are carried out on emergency lights and exit signs.

  3. 3

    Record every outcome

Passes and failures are documented with locations and recommended repairs.

  4. 4

    Repair and rebook

We can quote failed fittings and set the next testing date so the program continues.

FAQ

Common questions

Do you test exit signs as well as lights? +

Yes. Exit signs are part of the same emergency lighting visit, not a separate service.

Will the test turn the lights off? +

Discharge testing runs fittings from their battery. We plan timing so occupied areas are not left uncertain, and we flag anything that fails to last the test.

Can this be combined with other tests? +

Yes. Emergency lighting is often attended with RCD testing, smoke alarm testing, and thermal imaging under one compliance testing program.
